First step towards slice of history
STAR New Zealand mare Stylish Memphis will begin her quest for a slice of history this weekend.
Successful in the last two Ladyship Miles, Stylish Memphis has been sent across the Tasman in a bid to register a record third win in the Group One.
As it stands, the daughter of Bettors Delight is one of six dual winners of the time-honoured event.
Roma Hanover was the ground breaker, scoring in 1975 and ’78, with Jodie’s Babe, Diamond Debutante, Sabilize and Tailamade Lombo rounding out the elite sorority.
Renamed the Queen Elizabeth II Mile in 2022, this year’s edition is scheduled to be conducted at Club Menangle on February 25.
As for her pending assignment, Stylish Memphis will contest a free-for-all around the world class venue tomorrow night.
Pleased with the way Stylish Memphis has settled in, trainer Jack Trainor is confident the six-year-old will figure prominently in the finish after drawing the pole.
“She has been here for about three weeks and everything is spot on with her,” Trainor said. “She’s settled, sound, fit and ready to go.
“It’s the perfect draw for her and she will run a good race.
“Whether she can beat Expensive Ego remains to be seen, but she will be thereabouts.”
In what doubles as a farewell tour, Stylish Memphis will have her starts spaced leading up to her main assignment.
“She is in foal to Captaintreacherous, so she won’t be overly raced,” Trainor said. “There is another race for her at Menangle in about three weeks I will work her towards.
“After that it will be the main lead-ups to the Queen Elizabeth.”
