HERE are some figures for you…

Only 10 of the southern hemisphere’s best four-year-olds will contest Saturday night’s Chariots Of Fire at Club Menangle.

Of that 10, three are from New Zealand, with one owned by its breeder.

Taking those four out of the equation leaves another six stars chasing the lion’s share of the $250,000 on offer.

Sold by their breeders, that ‘Super Six’ were all purchased through one company – Australian Pacing Gold!

Five of the six have already enjoyed success at Group One level, with the ‘odd one out’ boasting a Group Three win, having been among the placings in two Group Ones.

The APG crew are led by Captain Ravishing, which is not only widely-considered the most exciting pacer on this side of the equator, but is destined to start as the shortest-priced favourite in the Chariots Of Fire’s decorated history.

Fresh from his arrogant victory in the $100,000 Bonanza a fortnight ago, Captain Ravishing is a $1.22 hotshot with TAB Fixed Odds after drawing the pole.

First-up from an 11-week spell, Captain Ravishing rated 1:50.9 over 1720 metres to score by 22 metres at Tabcorp Park Melton.

Shakamaker – also an APG purchase and eight-time Group One winner – holds the record as the shortest-priced Chariots of Fire runner, starting at $1.28 in 2000.

Listed at $7 with TAB Fixed Odds, yet another APG buy, Catch A Wave, is considered Captain Ravishing’s biggest threat from barrier seven.

Captain Ravishing and Catch A Wave are the only contenders under double figures in the 1609-metre sprint.

With Tims A Trooper paying $13 from gate three, three of the top four in the market are APG buys.
