BOOM Victorian pacer Captain Ravishing has the potential to start as the shortest priced Chariots Of Fire runner in history.

With the Emma Stewart-trained speedster drawing the pole in Saturday night’s Group One at Club Menangle, TAB Fixed Odds have installed the Australian Pacing Gold purchase a prohibitive $1.22 favourite.

Prior to Captain Ravishing’s skinny odds another Victorian – Shakamaker – held the record, beginning at $1.28 in 2000.

Shakamaker left frustrated punters holding their tickets, however, when beaten by Lombo Rapida at Harold Park.

Four year’s later Elsu was a $1.30 shot when triumphant for trainer Geoff Small.

Since the move to Menangle in 2010, Lazarus has been the shortest priced starter – and winner – when paying $1.40 in 2017.

As for Captain Ravishing, he heads into the $250,000 event on the strength of his arrogant success at Tabcorp Park Melton a fortnight ago.

First-up from an 11-week spell, Captain Ravishing rated 1:50.9 over 1720 metres to score by 22 metres from Heza Son Of Agun, which has drawn four in the Chariots Of Fire.

Opening at $11, yet another Australian Pacing Gold purchase – Catch A Wave – is the only other runner under double figures after being backed into $7 from barrier six.
