RECENT stable acquisition Major Holiday has a prime opportunity to register his second local win when he returns to Globe Derby tomorrow night.

Purchased from the New South Wales stable of Chris Frisby on the recommendation of former Harness Racing SA chairman, Gary Crocker, Major Holiday has had four South Australian starts for a win, third and fourth.

Drawn away from the pegs on each occasion, the son of Art Major will begin from the pole during his latest outing for prominent horseman Mario Borg.

Confident Major Holiday’s gate speed will have him in the lead soon after the start, Borg is positive the gelding will be all but impossible to beat.

“He hasn’t set a hoof wrong since he got here and I can’t think of any reason why that will change this week,” Borg said. “He has terrific gate speed and will be in front from the get go.

“I think it is his race to lose from the draw and it is hard to imagine him being beaten.”

Should there be a chink in Major Holiday’s armour, the step up in distance to 2230 metres could be the weak point.

Since arriving in SA, Major Holiday has raced over 1800 metres.

“He is increasing in distance, but it shouldn’t be a concern,” Borg said. “He’s raced over the longer trip before he got here and I work him hard over a mile-and-a-half.”
