“It’s a big step up in grade, but why not?”
AFTER Blue Chipped scored at Tabcorp Park Melton yesterday trainer Joe Borg stated he had no set plans for the handy pacer.
A consistent gelding which has finished in the top four during his past six outings, Blue Chipped has plenty of options as a National Rating 40.
Originally thinking of entering the son of Santanna Blue Chip in a suitable low class race, Borg stated he will consider the suggestion of aiming Blue Chipped at the Inter Dominion.
The time honoured series is scheduled to begin with heats at Club Menangle on November 27, giving Borg ample time to ‘fine tune’ the nine-year-old!
“I hadn’t given the Inter Dominion any thought, but now that you mention it,” Borg joked. “It’s a big step up in grade, but why not?
“Stranger things have happened in life!
“I’ll start off by aiming him at another race similar to yesterday and see how he goes before making any firm decisions.”
With Borg’s brother Charlie in the cart, Blue Chipped was masterfully driven to settle in the coveted one-one from barrier five as Lets Go Lohi led from gate three.
Taken three-wide along the back straight, Blue Chipped found the front halfway along the home straight before staving off a late charge from Kiwi Kalahari to score by a short half-head.
Silky Smooth Excuse was four metres away third in 2:02 over 2240 metres.
Owned by Borg, Blue Chipped took his record to seven wins and 31 placings from 162 starts.
“It was a good run from him,” Borg said. “He’s just always so consistent.
“Charlie drove him well, but it’s the training that got the job done.”
