It’s beginning to look a lot like Vicbred
AT THIS time of the year the majority of the nation is counting down to Christmas.
It’s all about spending time with family and friends, unwrapping presents and eating enough on December 25 to keep you full for the remainder of the year.
For record-breaking horsewoman Emma Stewart the festive period begins earlier.
In fact, what has to be Stewart’s favourite time of the year began in Shepparton last night with the opening round of Vicbred Super Series heats.
In recent years Stewart has dominated the futurity like no other.
In 2018 Stewart won 24 of the 34 pacing qualifiers across the three age categories before capturing five Group One Finals.
It was a similar scenario in 2019, with Stewart and her partner, Clayton Tonkin, winning 23 of the 34 heats and semis before again securing five Finals.
Last season Stewart was triumphant in 10 of the 17 heats and seven of the 11 semis in which she had a runner before winning three Group One Finals.
As for last night, Stewart was successful in four of the seven two-year-old heats in which she had a starter.
Stewart’s haul also includes a trifecta, two quinellas, two seconds and two thirds, with 17 members of the stable qualifying for the semis!
Stewart’s winners were Our Little Jet, Sounds Perfect, Khafaji and Fiammia.
“It was a very good night for the stable and more importantly our owners,” Stewart said.
“They all put in good runs and hopefully those which qualified for the semi-finals can do well on the night and make their way into the big one on New Year’s Eve.”
Vicbred action heads to Kilmore tonight for the three-year-old heats, with Stewart having runners in seven of the eight qualifiers…all of which are favourites!
