Coman chasing consecutive Cups
FRESH from last week’s Cup success, Blue Coman will be given the opportunity to add another provincial feature to his collection during the weekend.
Causing a minor upset for trainer Greg Norman, Blue Coman captured the Gunbower Trotters’ Cup with Kerryn Manning in the cart.
On Sunday the trio will head to Stawell for the club’s flagship trotters’ event.
Pleased with the manner in which Blue Coman has been working since his triumph, Norman is confident the son of Monkey Bones can capture consecutive Cups.
“I couldn’t be happier with him,” Norman said. “He has been very consistent all season, particularly his last half a dozen or so starts.
“He’s won three and been in the placings twice.
“He moves back to the 10-metre mark in Stawell, which means there will be a bit of traffic, but he’ll go well.”
Planning to follow the country cup circuit with the five-year-old, Norman stated one of the owners’ long term plans is no longer on the cards.
With Blue Coman raced by South Australian connections, the SA Trotters’ Cup was on the gelding’s hit list.
Following this week’s announcement from Harness Racing SA the feature will be limited to locally-trained runners, the trip across the border has been scrapped.
“The plan in the new season was to aim him at the Trotters’ Cup at Globe Derby, but that won’t be happening now,” Norman said.
“The Cormack family love seeing their horses over there for the carnivals, but under the new conditions it won’t be possible.”
