Just like her famous relative

SHE’S begun her career on the same note as one of her famous relatives, but whether Soho Lumine can reach the same heights is a pipedream according to trainer Michael Stanley.

Engaged in Saturday night’s Allied Express Classic at Tabcorp Park Melton, Soho Lumine heads into the feature on the strength of a winning debut.

Driven by Stanley, Soho Lumine enjoyed the run of the race behind her stablemate, Soho Seraphine, before scoring in 1:59 over 1650 metres in Bendigo a fortnight ago.

By Sweet Lou from Soho Madeleine, the filly is from the same family as champion pacer Lombo Pocket Watch.

A standout of his crop, Lombo Pocket Watch scored in Pinjarra upon debut before being checked and retired from the race during his following outing.

The amazing grey then won his next 19 starts, including six Group Ones.

By the middle of his second season Lombo Pocket Watch became the first standardbred in the southern hemisphere to earn $1million while still a three-year-old.

Overall Lombo Pocket Watch registered 45 wins and 17 placings from 83 starts for a bankroll of $1,522,638.

“She’s started her career in the right way and hopefully can keep it going,” Stanley said. “She is from a terrific family full of Group One winners, so maybe her turn will come.

“I don’t know if there will ever be another one like him, but if she could hit the line like Lombo Pocket Watch did I’ll be pretty happy.”

With Stanley to take the reins again, Soho Lumine will begin from the middle of the second row, with Soho Seraphine drawn to find the lead from barrier three.

“There is not a lot between them but Lumine is probably the more ready to go right now as far as manners wise, while Seraphine has a little bit to learn,” Stanley said.

“The draw will help Seraphine as she’s got really good gate speed so will always put herself in the race…she’s definitely a winning chance.

“It will obviously be harder than her first start for Lumine and she will have to come wide at some stage, which will be a lot different for her, but she is capable winning again.”
