OPENING at double figures last month, star New Zealand pacer Copy That is favourite for Saturday night’s A G Hunter Cup.
Upon releasing its ‘futures market’ for the Grand Circuit event, TAB Fixed Odds offered $11 for Copy That, which is owned by prominent Victorian couple Merv and Meg Butterworth.
Following his success in the Ballarat Cup a fortnight ago Copy That firmed to $5.
With the Ray Green-trained stallion drawn barrier six in the Tabcorp Park Melton-based feature, TAB Fixed Odds have cut his price to $2.25.
Triumphant at Club Menangle during his last two starts – including three nights ago – Spirit Of St Louis is considered the main danger at $4.50.
One of two Belinda McCarthy-prepared runners in the prestigious field, Spirit Of St Louis will begin from the pole, while his stablemate, Expensive Ego, faces a tougher task from gate nine.
An Australian Pacing Gold purchase, Expensive Ego is on the third line of betting at $7.
“Copy That was as much as $11 midway through December,” TAB’s Andrew Georgiou said.
“He was easily the best backed runner in terms of Futures betting and held twice as much as the next best supported runner, which had happened to be Old Town Road at a price.
“Old Town Road is still sitting at $14.”
