WINDY HILL TARA
Minor miracle required
October 25, 2023 Paul Courts

SHE’S one of only two fillies to achieve the seemingly impossible feat, with connections hoping she can repeat the dose on the weekend.
The chances of that happening, however, are close to impossible according to trainer Steve Turnbull.
Engaged in a New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge Final at Club Menangle on Sunday, Windy Hill Tara’s rivals include wonder filly, Major Delight.
Clearly the best of her crop, Major Delight boasts 13 wins and a pair of seconds from 15 starts.
One defeat was in the Victoria Oaks two starts ago behind her stablemate, Sweet Bella, while the other was to Windy Hill Tara in a Bathurst Gold Bracelet heat last May.
“We’ve beaten her before, so she is capable of doing it again, but I can’t see it happening this weekend,” Turnbull said. “It will take a minor miracle for that to happen.”
Fueling Turnbull’s pessimistic outlook is the barrier draw, with Major Delight drawn to search for the lead, while Windy Hill Tara will begin “from out in the carpark”!
Successful in her semi last Saturday night, Major Delight has received gate three for premier Victorian trainer Emma Stewart.
Third in her semi, Windy Hill Tara on the other hand is the widest drawn in the field of 10.
“We couldn’t have drawn any worse,” Turnbull said. “As far as Tara is concerned, she couldn’t be in better condition, but I can’t say the same about the draw.
“We’re just going to have to hope she can pop in somewhere and get the right luck in the run.”
