More Hryhorec heroics
NOT to be outdone by his trainer’s recent heroics C K Spur produced his own super effort in Victor Harbor yesterday.
Undertaking a regular trip to Mildura on Thursday night, astute horseman Ryan Hryhorec received wide praise for his ‘spring into action’ thinking during the aftermath a race fall.
Watching an out of control pacer pass him twice, Hryhorec jumped the fence and caught the runaway during his third attempted bypass.
“He was running everywhere in a panic and had gone passed me twice,” Hryhorec said. “When I saw him heading back for a third time instinct kicked in and I jumped the fence to grab him.
“At that point I didn’t really think, I just reacted to save the horse and any possible damage.”
It’s not the first time Hryhorec has ‘saved the day’.
Several years ago Hryhorec ran into the middle of a track to stop a possible disaster after a runaway jumped the inside rail leaving the clerk of the course unable to reach him.
As for C K Spur, he produced an effort worthy of donning a cape by overcoming a 50-metre back mark and a tough run in the ‘death seat’ to capture the Trotters’ Cup.
With Hryhorec in the cart, C K Spur sat outside the leader, Redriverdebba, before scoring by three metres from the front runner.
Scruffy Doolan was a half-head away third.
Rating 2:04.2 over 2660 metres, the son of Pegasus Spur continued Hryhorec’s clean sweep of the various Trotters’ Cup.
Hryhorec was triumphant in the Gramel and Strathalbyn Cups with Mass Destruction before C K Spur secured the Gawler, Port Pirie and Victor Harbor equivalents.
“That was another super effort from him as he hadn’t had a start since winning in Port Pirie four weeks ago,” Hryhorec said.
“He won’t go to Kapunda next week as it’s only over 2220 metres and you can’t come from a handicap like that over a short trip.
“I don’t even like his chances in the main cup a week later as the handicaps are getting ridiculous.
“I know he still won yesterday, but he has been helped by small fields. He only had to go around five this time, but chuck in another five and it will pull him up.”
