One is all you need
THEY only had one runner on the card, but that was all Clayton Tonkin and Emma Stewart needed to add to their impressive record.
The Victorian-based couple have been regular raiders during the past decade, winning South Australian majors seemingly at will.
Along with Cups, Derbys and Oaks, Tonkin and Stewart have captured eight Southern Cross Finals for two-year-olds and five three-year-old Finals since 2015.
At Globe Derby on Saturday night, the duo secured another feature when Miss Disturbia proved to be a class above her rivals in the Kindergarten Final.
Successful in a heat the previous week when she trailed the leader, Miss Disturbia worked in the ‘death seat’ on this occasion.
With Samantha Pascoe holding the reins, the daughter of Art Major overpowered the pacemaker, Torque Intheusa, to score by six metres.
After enjoying the ideal trip behind the frontrunner, Oil The Frisbee was 20 metres away third as a $101 outsider.
Unbeaten from two starts, Miss Disturbia rated 2:00.8 over 1800 metres.
“She’s a pretty handy filly,” Tonkin said. “We had this race picked out for a long time ago and it is great to see her come out on top.
“She is primarily owned in South Australia, so it is a hometown win to a large degree.”
Despite her glory, Miss Disturbia will be given little time to rest with Tonkin revealing the two-year-old has been nominated for Saturday night’s Pink Bonnet at Club Menangle.
