PACING sensation Leap To Fame is officially on target to join a pair of the industry’s immortals.

Thanks to his Newcastle Mile victory just moments ago, Leap To Fame has earned the first berth in the famed Miracle Mile.

The southern hemisphere’s ultimate speed test, the $1million Garrards-sponsored sprint is scheduled to be conducted at Club Menangle on March 9.

VILLAGE KID winning the Miracle Mile at Harold Park

Should Leap To Fame secure the Grand Circuit gem, he will become just the third pacer to win the ‘Big Three’ – A G Hunter Cup, Inter Dominion and Miracle Mile – since the latter was added to the racing calendar in 1967.

Leap To Fame began his quest by capturing the Inter Dominion at his home track – Albion Park – on December 16 before winning the Hunter Cup in Melton three weeks ago.

As it stands, only Preux Chevalier and Village Kid have achieved the feat.

Preux Chevalier won the 1985 Inter Dominion and Hunter Cup at Moonee Valley and the Miracle Mile at Harold Park.

Like Leap To Fame, Village Kid’s Inter Dominion glory came at Albion Park in 1986 as well as winning the Hunter Cup at Moonee Valley and Miracle Mile at Harold Park.

    LEAP TO FAME

As for Leap To Fame, he earned his shot at a share of history by working to the lead from barrier seven before scoring by six metres from Mach Da Vinci, with Kanena Provlima a metre-and-a-half away third.

Trained and driven by Grant Dixon, the son of Bettors Delight covered the waterlogged 1609 metres in 1:51.9, taking his record to an impressive 34 wins and eight placings from 44 starts for earnings of $2,215,957.

Club Menangle will host the only other two Miracle Mile qualifiers – Cordina Chicken Group and Allied Express Sprints – on March 2.
