Perfect start to season continues

HANDY pacer Hasty Bid continued his perfect start to the season last Saturday night.

Having his third outing for the year, Hasty Bid overcame a wide draw to score with ease at Globe Derby.

Understandably impressed with the gelding, trainer David Harding is confident Hasty Bid can extend his streak “a little longer”.

“He’s done a good little job since we got him,” Harding said. “We bought him from Queensland and he has been a good buy.

“He’s starting to get up to a harder grade now, just a couple wins out of free-for-all, but I think he can put some more wins together a little longer.

“He’s got to improve a bit to take the next step, but he’s on the right path.”

With champion reinswoman Dani Hill in the cart, Hasty Bid was eased away from barrier seven to be settled at the tail of the field as Lochinvar Camaro led from the pole.

“He does have gate speed, but there was a bit of speed inside him, so it wasn’t a concern for him to go back as he is pretty versatile,” Harding said. “I told Dani to go when she felt the time was right and she summed it up perfectly.”

Taken three-wide at the bell, Hasty Bid surged his way to the front along the back straight before cruising to a five-metre win from Rocknroll Spirit.

Lochinvar Camaro battled on to be five-and-a-half metres away third as the winner rated 1:58.4 over 2230 metres.

“It was a nice tough run from him,” Harding said. “He did it well and hit the line strongly.

“I’ve nominated him for Saturday night, but I will see how he is with the heat during the next couple of days before I confirm whether he has a start or not.”
