Positive karma after lending helping hand

POSITIVE karma has been coming David Drury’s way after agreeing to help a fellow horseman.

A conversation with Victorian trainer Paul Warnock resulted in Drury accepting Roblen Ranger into his stable.

Second when first-up for Drury, Roblen Ranger was luckless during his next two starts before completing a winning double.

“I took him to help out Paul Warnock, who owns him with his Dad,” Drury explained. “With his Dad heading on holiday to Queensland, Paul didn’t have enough time and asked if I’d bring him home.

“He won in Mount Gambier for Paul and was put on my float for the trip to my place on the same night.

“He’s done a nice job since, so I’m glad I agreed to take him on.”

Poised to return to Mount Gambier tomorrow night, Roblen Ranger will attempt a hat-trick from barrier five.

With a “fair bit of speed on his inside”, Drury stated he is yet to decide on tactics.

“He’s no superstar, but is going alright at the moment,” Drury said. “He’s a  real tradesman-like pacer and it’d be nice if he could get the hat-trick.

“The draw makes it a bit tricky, so I’m not sure what I will do as there is a fair bit of speed on his inside.

“There is also a bit of form in the race, so any number of them could win without surprising.”
