Remarkable domination continues
POWER couple Emma Stewart and Clayton Tonkin have continued their remarkable Vicbred Super Series dominance.
With runners engaged in 11 of the 12 Alabar-sponsored semi-finals at Tabcorp Park Melton last night, the pair made seven visits to the winners’ circle
During last season’s corresponding program Stewart and Tonkin won seven of the 12 semis.
In 2018 they captured eight of the 12 semi-finals!
Overall Stewart and Tonkin have qualified 16 runners for the pacing Finals on New Year’s Eve.
“It was a very good night for the stable and more importantly our owners,” Stewart said.
“They all put in good runs and hopefully those which qualified for the Finals can do well on the night.”
Their haul includes a clean sweep of the two-year-old category, with Idyllic and Major Moth too good for the ‘boys’, while Joanna and Ladies In Red outclassed the fillies.
Rating 1:56.3 over 2240 metres – 2.1 seconds quicker than her stablemate – Ladies In Red stretched her unbeaten record to nine.
Amelia Rose and Maajida provided a double among the three-year-old fillies, while Out To Play continued his faultless title defence.
Triumphant in his heat a fortnight ago, Out To Play occupied the ‘death seat’ on his way to a 1:56.7 victory in his semi.
The son of Art Major won last season’s Final in which Stewart prepared the first four across the finish.
“He’s been terrific in his heat and semi but it’s going to be a lot harder in the Final against Lochinvar Art,” Stewart said.
