Completion of seemingly impossible task

A SEEMINGLY impossible task was achieved at Club Menangle last night.

Contesting the Celebrating Harold Park Cup, Whereyabinboppin caused an upset by capturing the Group Three.

In doing so the Shane Sanderson-trained gelding beat Cash N Flow, which has dominated the open class ranks since March.

Cash N Flow won his 13 previous starts around the 1400-metre circuit.

Driven to perfection by Cameron Hart, Whereyabinboppin was surged out of the gate to lead from barrier seven – a role Cash N Flow usually plays.

Striding clear of the pack at the top of the home straight, the son of A Rocknroll Dance completed a five-and-a-half metre win from Pay Me Sam, with Makoa a metre away third.

Cash N Flow was fourth, beaten seven metres as the $1.45 favourite.

“We’ve never pushed him out like that before and he showed an addition to his arsenal with that gate speed,” Sanderson said.

“I didn’t give Cameron instructions and left that decision up to him.

“Cameron took full advantage once in front and the horse responded brilliantly.”

Citing next weekend’s Shirley Turnbull Memorial in Bathurst as Whereyabinboppin following up target, Sanderson will aim the four-year-old at various country cups in the New Year.

“I’ll put him in the Shirley Turnbull on Boxing Day and see how he goes,” Sanderson said. “He hasn’t raced over more than 2300 metres, and the Shirley Turnbull is 2800, so it will be another test for him.

“Next season I will set him for some of the country cups and may even consider a trip to Victoria for the right feature.”
