REGAINING winning form at the right time, talented filly Sunshineanrainbows will attempt to make amends for a major disappointment from last season.

A short-priced favourite in the 2022 Southern Cross Final at Globe Derby, Sunshineanrainbows was unplaced after being checked and breaking stride during the middle stages.

Given a long spell after the futurity, the daughter of Sweet Lou has mixed her form this term to notch two wins and four placings from nine starts.

Racing against older opposition earlier this week, Sunshineanrainbows scored in 1:56.6 over 1800 metres, giving trainer Paul Cavallaro some hope ahead of tonight’s Southern Cross Final for three-year-olds.

“She has been hit and miss this season, which has been a little frustrating,” Cavallaro said. “During her last run she was more like herself, so hopefully she’s going to keep the momentum going.

“If I can count on her to be at her best, I wouldn’t be scared of any of them in the Final, but that ‘if’ is an integral part of the equation.”

With Cavallaro to take the reins, Sunshineanrainbows has drawn to lead throughout from the pole, with her main danger, Delightful Tammy, to come from barrier four.

“She has a good draw and I plan to make the most of it,” Cavallaro said. “Tammy is one to beat as she has been the measuring stick all season…I just hope this time we have her measure!”
