Tasty’s draw delights connections
“IT’S the best draw he’s had, not just in a big race, but in any race!”
That’s trainer Brian Portelli’s reaction to Tasty Delight’s starting position in Saturday night’s New South Wales Derby at Club Menangle.
Drawn barrier three, the son of Bettors Delight slots into two with the removal of the second emergency.
“We plan to make the most of this draw,” Portelli said. “He’ll be going forward at the start and can hopefully get into a good position.
“It certainly brightens your outlook when you draw well while knowing the main dangers will be becoming from out wide.”
Winner of his heat, Tasty Delight is the $2.60 favourite with Tab Fixed Odds.
Fellow heat winner Patsbeachstorm is the $3.20 second elect from gate eight.
Prepared by Victorian horseman David Moran, Patsbeachstorm moves into barrier six once the emergencies are taken out of the equation.
“My bloke has pulled up a treat from his run in the heat and is in perfect condition for the Final,” Portelli said.
“Now we just have to hope it falls into place on the night.
“Patsbeachstorm’s draw could be a bit tricky, but he’s the one to beat.”
