CONNECTIONS of James Cagney are on “top of the world” thanks to his success at Club Menangle on Saturday night.

Making ‘saps’ of his opposition, James Cagney remains undefeated from four Australian appearances.

The son of Art Major also won his final New Zealand outing, giving him a five-start winning streak.

Admitting to being sceptical about the rise in class James Cagney was set to face, trainer Aaron Goadsby stated he will have to revaluate his plans for the gelding.

“I considered that a test for him and he passed with flying colours,” Goadsby said. “I’ll have to rethink my plans with him and may even take him to Queensland for the four-year-old race at Albion Park in a couple of weeks.

“There are still plenty of options at Menangle for him as well.

“The great thing is he’s already paid his purchase price back for us from three starts, so everything now is a bonus to enjoy.”

Restrained from barrier five by Josh Gallagher, James Cagney was settled towards the tail of the field as The Fortunate Son worked to the lead.

Four-wide around the final bend, James Cagney sprinted to a soft 12-metre win from Janarty, with Shes A Caribbean a neck away third in 1:52.8 over a mile.

“That was a top run,” Goadsby said. “I’m more than happy with the way he went.”
