Trotter to add to family’s incredible legacy

IF HIS family history is anything to go by, Meydan will win Saturday night’s Four and Five-Year-Old Final at Club Menangle with ease.

The problem is his ancestry doesn’t guarantee success, plus the opposition in the Group One equates to “a very even field”.

Meydan is part of the Maori Dynasty, which has produced top shelf winners and champions such as the immortal Maori’s Idol.

Other members of the clan include Maori Miss, Sumthingaboutmaori, Maori’s Dream, Blitzthemcalder, Calder Sensation, Maori’s Glory, Maori Princess, Noopy Kiosk, Master Maori, Skye Rocket, Tennotrump, Maori Time, Maori Law and Asdenro to name a few.

MAORI’S IDOL

Meydan’s a half-brother, Vincennes, is also a Group One winner.

Trained by Anton Golino, the trotter heads into the $50,000 feature fresh from his success at Tabcorp Park Melton on June 15.

The Final was originally scheduled for last weekend, but was postponed due to severe weather conditions.

“He’s been up there a week longer than planned, but he has settled in well,” Golino said.

“He was staying at Luke’s (McCarthy) place but had to be moved to Menangle because of the flooding.

“Overall, he is feeling good and ready to go.”

To be driven by Nathan Jack, Meydan has drawn barrier five, but slots into five with the removal of the emergency.

TAB Fixed Odds have the son of Andover Hall on the second line of betting at $6, with local squaregaiter, Watts Up Majestic, heading the market at $1.60 despite drawing the outside of the front row.

“It’s a very even field, but he’ll be hard to beat,” Golino said. “It’s one of those races you could run several times and probably get a different winner.”
