Hoping history can repeat itself
VICTORIAN horsewoman Emma Stewart is confident history can repeat itself during the weekend.
Rewind to last July and Amazing Dream upstaged the ‘boys’ in the inaugural The Rising Sun at Albion Park.
The only mare in the field, Amazing Dream enjoyed the perfect trip behind the leader from barrier three before being angled into the sprint lane to score by a head.
With the second edition of the Group One for three and four-year-olds scheduled to be conducted at the same venue on Saturday night, Stewart will be represented by two pacers.
One of which is sensational mare Ladies In Red.
Like Amazing Dream, Ladies In Red is the only female in the field and has drawn barrier three!
“So far everything about the race has matched Amazing Dream, so with a bit of luck that will be the case at the finish as well,” Stewart said.
Returning from a four-month break on April 27, Ladies In Red won an Australian Pacing Gold heat before finishing second in the Final a fortnight later.
The daughter of Mach Three has been kept fresh since and will be first-up in the $305,000 major.
Despite a lack of racing this season, Stewart believes Ladies In Red will play a role in the finish.
“She hasn’t raced for a couple of months, but has had plenty of work put into her,” Stewart said. “She is in top order and will be hard to beat.”
Also returning from a break, Ladies In Red’s stablemate – Beyond Delight – has drawn awkwardly in gate six.
Beyond Delight hasn’t raced since completing a clean sweep of the APG series on May 7.
“He is also in terrific order, but the draw hasn’t done him any favours,” Stewart said. “He’ll need some luck from there, but if he gets the right passage he’ll let them know he’s in it.”
