Undefeated filly back in action
DESPITE being first-up from a long break, undefeated filly Namaka remains the one to beat at Club Menangle tomorrow according to trainer Kevin Pizzuto.
Winner of her two starts, Namaka was sent for a spell following her Pink Bonnet Stake success around the world class venue last May.
Fourth in two recent trials, the two-year-old is engaged in a New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge heat.
“She needed the run at the trials and will be sharper again tomorrow,” Pizzuto said. “She will be even better again after that run.
“She’s a nice filly and I can’t see why she won’t get the job done again.”
To be driven by Josh Gallagher, Namaka has drawn awkwardly in barrier six over a mile, with her main danger, Sugar Pie Honey, to come from five.
“Her draw is not ideal and there are a couple which go alright, but I reckon I have her where I want her for the first round,” Pizzuto said.
“Obviously, I’d like to see her win, but as long as she gets into the semi, and then the Final, is the main thing.”
Later on the card Ravishing Sloy will make his debut under Pizzuto’s care, with the son of Bettors Delight drawn gate eight.
Pizzuto is the three-year-old’s fourth trainer in 20 starts!
“We bought him and I am very happy with the way he has come along,” Pizzuto said. “Tomorrow’s race is a nice starting point for him as I wind him up for the Victoria Derby heats in a few weeks.”
