Undefeated filly smashes Australasian record
A RECORD breaking performance has moved exciting filly Major Delight a step closer to emulating one of her highly-successful dam’s feats.
Stretching her undefeated status to five, Major Delight blitzed her rivals in a New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge semi-final at Club Menangle last night.
Driven by Mark Pitt, the two-year-old covered the mile in a brilliant 1:50.5 to slash 1.3 seconds from Soho Almasi’s Australasian record.
Soho Almasi set the mark when winning the 2020 Breeders’ Challenge Final.
By Bettors Delight, Major Delight is from former top mare Lady Euthenia, which won four Group Ones as a two-year-old, including the 2009 Breeders’ Challenge Final.
As for Major Delight she will return to the world class venue for the $150,000 decider on October 29.
“She hasn’t set a hoof wrong since the day she was put into work,” trainer Emma Stewart said. “She has a ton of ability and is improving with each run.”
Leading throughout from barrier five, Major Delight scored by three-and-a-half metres from Peaceful, which is from 2013 Breeders’ Challenge winner, Frith.
Caught in a pocket, Promiseland was a half-neck away third.
Also seemingly stuck behind the leader and desperate for racing room along the back straight, Saveeon gained the opening she needed during the latter stages to capture the second semi.
Trained and driven by Ashlee Grives, Saveeon reached the front in the last stride to complete a half-neck win from the pacemaker, Treasure Stride, with Miss Froufrou five metres away third.
Bred and owned by Tracey Grives, Saveeon stopped the clock in 1:53.2, taking her record to five wins and four placings from 12 starts.
