Waiting for stablemates to run obvious quinella!
IT APPEARS I’m not the only movie buff waiting for a certain quinella to occur.
With a pair of pacers in his stable possessing the right names, trainer Andy Gath is also looking forward to the day the duo run first and second in a race.
But even then the finishing order has to be the correct way.
As it stands the geldings have competed at the same meeting seven times, but only clashed twice – with one pacer doing his part by winning.
‘Sly’ has scored in Bendigo and Ballarat, while ‘Kurt’ has failed to figure among the placings let alone be runner-up!
Officially the stablemates are known as Tango Tara and Diamond N Cash, with the desired quinella a throwback to the hit 1989 action movie.
Sylvester ‘Sly’ Stallone plays Ray Tango, with Kurt Russell in the role as Gabriel Cash.
“I’ve been waiting for it to happen,” Gath said. “I’ve even made references to it around the stable, but the staff have no idea what I’m talking about!”
Tango and Cash will be given another chance to achieve the preferred result when they contest Saturday night’s Smoken Up Sprint in Bendigo.
Doing so will take the kind of miracle only the fictional characters can pull off, with both drawn the second line in a strong field.
“They are both in good form, but it’s not going to be easy for either of them to win, let alone run the quinella,” Gath said.
“With a bit of luck it will happen on Saturday night, if not later down the track.”
