Well-bred mare’s comeback complete
WELL-BRED mare Arma Hotshot’s comeback is complete thanks to her success at Club Menangle tonight.
Having her sixth start from a long break, Arma Hotshot proved too slick for her rivals much to the delight of trainer David Thorn.
Arma Hotshot found herself in Thorn’s care after spending more than a year on the sidelines.
The daughter of Modern Art and broodmare gem Arma The One hadn’t raced since October 2018 before being transferred to Thorn.
“She went to Melbourne but never raced as she had a leg issue,” Thorn said. “It was bit of a tendon issue, it was nothing serious, but they didn’t risk her.
“Dean Braun recommended her owners send her here as he felt Menangle would suit her.
“She’s a lovely mare, easy to get on with and has good speed.”
Driven by Jack Trainor, Arma Hotshot began quickly to lead from barrier two as Zhukov Leis occupied the ‘death seat’.
Striding clear at the top of the home straight, Arma Hotshot scored by seven metres from Prophesy, with Hez Razor Sharp three metres away third in 1:53.1 over the mile.
“She went very well,” Thorn said. “I’m very pleased with the job she did.
“I was pretty confident and expected her to go close, but I did think she was a bit short when odds-on, but they were right and I was wrong,
“She’s been going well and this was the first time she found the fence for a while, so that suited her.
“I know she led, but she showed a bit of toughness tonight as she rolled along and was strong on the line.
“I will put her around in a stronger M0 next week or the mares’ race and we’ll see how she goes.”
