Wonderful to contribute to such an amazing cause
WHAT better way to celebrate the anniversary of your maiden win than to register another!
Making her first trip to the winners’ circle after scoring with Gold Sovereign at Club Menangle last February, Aleisha Bond marked the occasion by returning to the number one stall yesterday.
Once again competing at the world class venue, Bond was triumphant with Sunny Gee, which caused an upset at $15.
Thrilled to notch her second victory, Bond stated the timing was more important than an anniversary.
“I got my first win this time last year,” Bond said. “It’s great to get another win at the same time, but more importantly during teal pants time.
“It’s wonderful to be able to contribute to such an amazing cause.
“The reinswomen do a remarkable job and it is wonderful to be a part of that.”
Beginning quickly to find the pegs from barrier seven, Sunny Gee enjoyed the run of the race behind his stablemate, Majestic Hurricane, which led from eight.
Angled to the outside at the top of the home straight, the son of Majestic Son completed a three-and-a-half metre win from On Advice, with Mascott a metre away third.
“He was always travelling well, but after On Advice ran to the front and opened up a big lead around the home turn I wasn’t sure if we would catch him,” Bond said.
“Once we straightened up he really put his head down and finished it off so well.
“I can’t thank KerryAnn (Morris, trainer) enough for giving me the drive… she also trained my first winner.”
Bond’s success took the teal pants team’s tally to a sensational 109 wins.
Like every reinswomen throughout Australia and New Zealand, Bond is sporting specially-designed driving pants as a participant of the Teal Pants Campaign.
Between February 1 and March 15 the leading ladies wear teal pants as part of the extraordinary crusade to raise crucial funding and valuable awareness towards ovarian cancer research and education.
Each state’s governing body, various principal clubs and the TAB have combined to donate $400 to WomenCan for each victory.
Western Australia has taken a different approach and is donated $15,000.
“KerryAnn is one of the teal pants Ambassadors and she has a strong focus on this time of the year,” Bond said.
