HIGHLY-TOUTED performer Ride High completed an electrifying racing return at Tabcorp Park Melton tonight.

First-up since last December, the Clayton Tonkin-trained stallion trounced his rivals in quick time, justifying being tagged the best pacer in the nation.

Tonkin’s partner Emma Stewart made the bald statement about the son of Art Major earlier in the week.

Given Ride High’s latest performance it is difficult to argue with the record-breaking horsewoman’s assessment.

Driven by Kima Frenning, Ride High led throughout from barrier two to score by 29 metres from Our Step Up, with My Kiwi Mate a metre-and-a-half away third.

Rating 1:51.6 over 1720 metres, Ride High stretched his record to 11 wins and a third from 12 starts.

“There is something special about him,” Tonkin said. “I know what Emma said on the radio earlier in the week and there is no doubt about his ability.

“He’s ready to go all the way, and provided he has no interruptions like he has had previously moving forward, everyone will see just what he is capable of.”

Winner of the 2018 Breeders’ Crown as a three-year-old, Ride High missed last season due to a suspensory injury.

The five-year-old’s latest stint on the sidelines was the result of a respiratory issue.

“He had entrapped epiglottis which has been successfully removed,” Tonkin said. “After plenty of time to recover he has come back bigger and stronger than ever.”
