All hail the Queen of Pacing

WRITING was already on the wall, but at Club Menangle tonight it became official.

Following her success in the evening’s main event – Queen Elizabeth II Stake – Captains Mistress is Australia’s undisputed Queen of Pacing!

Having her eighth start for prominent trainer Jason Grimson, which have netted seven wins, Captains Mistress turned the Group One into a one-act affair.

It’s the third top shelf feature the daughter of Captaintreacherous has secured since joining Grimson’s stable, following from her Queen of the Pacific win in Melton and Chariots of Fire glory at Club Menangle.

As for her latest triumph, Captains Mistress led throughout from barrier two to complete an arrogant 12-and-a-half metre win from Steno, with Wicked Confession a neck away third.

With Cam Hart holding the reins, the four-year-old covered the mile in a slick 1:49.7.

“She’s a brilliant mare,” Hart said. “The sectionals she puts up on the back end of big miles is just incredible and she gives me a great feeling every time.

“Jason and I have been lucky enough to win some great races together but it just makes it even more exciting when it is with one out of the box like this girl is.

“Hopefully going forward when she heads to Brisbane over the winter she can have more success.”
