Drawn to break long drought

CONNECTIONS of Keilah hope she can finally register an overdue win at Globe Derby tomorrow night.

Racing in solid form, Keilah has been absent from the number one stall since scoring at the same venue in February 2024 when trained by Rebecca Geurds.

Geurds still owns the daughter of Art Major, which is now in the Nick Tardio stable.

Showing glimpses of her best this campaign, Keilah was third two starts ago before finishing second on April 20.

“She’s been building up to a win,” Tardio said. “With a bit of luck she will get the job done this week.

“She has had interruptions along the way, like being sold and bought back, but she’s working her way back.”

To be driven by Michael Smith, Keilah has drawn to settle in a prominent position from barrier two, with the hot favourite, Sea Salt, to come from gate five.

Prepared by astute horseman Tyson Linke, Sea Salt was third when first-up from two-month spell a fortnight ago.

“The draw is ideal and should help her along the way,” Tardio said. “Hopefully she can get a nice soft trip from there and run a drum…she should get her chance from there.

“Sea Salt is the one to beat, while Toby Ryan’s one (Alora) goes well too.”
