Another interstate trip on the cards
ANOTHER interstate trip is on the cards for quality youngster Nymbal.
Prepared by prominent New South Wales horsewoman KerryAnn Morris, Nymbal was taken north last July, where he captured the $52,000 Redcliffe Derby before finishing fourth in the Queensland Derby.
Racing closer to home in recent weeks, the three-year-old is being primed for a southern trip this time, with connections setting their sights on Victoria’s Blue Riband.
Heats of Australia’s eldest classic are programmed for October 10, with the Group One Final to be conducted in Melton a week later.
Morris’ reinsman-husband Robbie confirmed the plans following Nymbal’s success in last night’s Carousel Final at Club Menangle.
“We’re looking at taking him down for the Victoria Derby,” Robbie said. “He has definitely earned a shot at it.
“We’ll head for the heats and hopefully he makes it into the Final, which will most likely finish off his season.
“Being New Zealand-bred he isn’t eligible for any of the futurities, so we’ll give him a long break and look at having him ready for the Chariots Of Fire next year.”
With Morris in the cart during his latest outing, Nymbal was settled three-back along the pegs from barrier three as hot favourite Palladium led from six.
Desperate for an opening along the back straight, the son of Lazarus was brilliantly weaved through traffic before sprinting to a two-and-a-half metre victory from the pacemaker.
Among the outsiders at $61, Maurlen Boy was five metres away third.
Rating 1:53 over 2300 metres, Nymbal took his record to five wins and two placings from nine starts since arriving in Australia.
“He has been a great pick up,” Robbie said. “He’s owned by a mix of long term clients and first time owners and is doing a great job.
“We’re having a lot of fun with him and hopefully he can keep going the way he is.”
