CONTINUING his impressive form since arriving in New South Wales, Wicked Wizard is expected to make his presence felt again at Club Menangle tomorrow night.

Racing in stylish fashion for Victorian horseman Shane Sanderson, Wicked Wizard registered three wins and five placings from his last 10 starts before being transferred to David Thorn’s care in June.

Making a successful debut for Thorn at Club Menangle on August 1, Wicked Wizard was then void of luck before scoring at the same venue three weeks ago.

Kept fresh since his victory, the son of Mcwicked is set to contest the opening Carousel heat over 2300 metres.

“He came here in top condition and form and has been able to continue that, which is great,” Thorn said. “You can draw a line through his second start when nothing went right, but his other two runs have been terrific.

“The Carousel has been the target with him, which is why he hasn’t raced for a few weeks, keeping him sharp for the series.”

With Jye Coney to take the reins, Wicked Wizard has drawn barrier eight, but slots into seven as a result of a scratching.

Scoring at his first start for trainer Jason Grimson a fortnight ago, Lexus Lou is the one to beat from gate two according to Thorn.

“It’s actually quite a strong heat and we’ve drawn wide which doesn’t help,” Thorn said. “He’s feeling terrific and I’m as confident as I can be given the circumstances.

“Jason’s one was impressive over the mile and looks hard to beat…I’d say my bloke shapes as the second pick in the race.”

Thorn also has Montefiore in the following heat, with the gelding drawn poorly in seven.

“He’s going to find it tough from there,” Thorn said. “We’ll be hoping the speed is on to give him a chance of finishing strongly.”
