Astute horsewoman registers personal milestone
JUST a week after her personal milestone went unnoticed, astute horsewoman Amy Day reached a new level today.
Competing at her local track – Terang – Day notched her 400th win as a driver by reining Le Cardinal to glory on May 18, however, no fanfare followed, with Day quietly celebrating the moment.
“To be honest I wasn’t even aware I was getting close to 400 until it was brought to my attention,” Day said. “It’s not something I specifically keep an eye on, but it was good to get it.
“Any milestone is great to look back on as it’s like getting a century in cricket, it always feels good.”
Heading to Horsham this afternoon, Day was triumphant with Happily, with the success her 401st driving win!
“It’s the first time I’ve driven 401 wins, so I guess that’s a milestone,” Day joked. “Getting a win anywhere at any time, regardless of what number it is, is always great.”
Overcoming a second row draw, Happily travelled two-back in the running line before sprinting to a seven-metre win from Eyesealittle.
Missmalachite was four-and-a-half metres away third.
Bred and owned by Martin Sieper, the daughter of Soho Tribeca rated 1:56.9 over 1700 metres, taking her record to two wins and two seconds from five starts.
“She had a really good week on the training track and I was just hoping she got the right run today,” Day said. “During the run she was travelling comfortably so I grew in confidence.
“When I pulled her out she really knuckled down and I was very happy with the way she finished it off.
“At this stage I haven’t set out a game plan for her and will wait until see how she gets through the run before finding the next suitable race.”
