South Aussie stallion making impact in New Zealand

SOUTH Australian-based stallion Imperial Count is having an impact in New Zealand thanks to the deeds of his exciting daughter.

No stranger to producing high class stock, Imperial Count is a Group One winning sire whose progeny have made their way into the winners’ circle throughout Australasia.

As for Imperial Count’s latest promising type – Imperious Girl – she is undefeated from three starts, including an impressive victory in Winton last night.

Trained and driven by Craig Ferguson, Imperious Girl was caught three-wide early from barrier six before being settled in the ‘death seat’ as Rangitata led from four.

Powering her way to the front turning for home, the three-year-old was untouched to cover the mile in 1:56.8 as Pyramid Rose and Rangitata filled the placings.

Imperial Count stands at Mario Borg’s Bellmoure Park Stud in South Australia, with the horseman stating Imperious Girl’s success as sparked interest in the American-bred stallion.

“He’s got a good record as a stallion and gets attention each breeding season, but it has picked up in the past month or so thanks to Imperious Girl,” Borg said. “I’ve had some looking to have semen shipped over to New Zealand.

“She shows a lot of promise and I know they owners are keen to contest the Trotters’ Oaks over there.

“Ideally they’ll bring her over for something like the Victoria Trotters’ Oaks in October so Australians can get a good look at her.”
