Brazen thief robs Trotting Club
A BRAZEN thief has robbed the South Australian Harness Racing Club.
Entering the club’s Globe Derby venue last night, the man held up the gaming operation by threatening staff with a machete.
After casually walking into the main room, the male is reported to have forced two staff members to open the club’s safe and place the cash contents into a duffle bag.
It’s believed the man left with a few thousand dollars, leaving the staff distressed by unharmed.
Police searched the area for the masked suspect, who was wearing a black hoodie, dark coloured pants, but failed to catch the thief.
It’s not the first time the trotting venue has been robbed.
Several years ago – ironically on a Wednesday night – a man threatened a security guard with an axe before attempting to run him over.
The guard spotted the man stealing a bag of coins from the gaming room before following him to the car park where a female accomplice was waiting in a car.
As the security guard approached the couple the man got out of the car and threatened the him with a tomahawk before returning to the vehicle where he drove at the guard and threatened him with the axe again before speeding away.
The security guard drew his pistol and the man drove off. No shots were fired.
