Can record-breaking clean sweep continue?
FRESH from creating history with his victory at Kapunda last weekend, prominent horseman Ryan Hryhorec hopes to end the cups circuit on the perfect note at Globe Derby on Saturday night.
By preparing Aldebaran Alissa to score at the provincial track Hryhorec completed an unprecedented clean sweep of the various country Trotters’ Cups.
While the South Australian circuit isn’t as large as other states, Hryhorec became the first Australian trainer to achieve the feat.
Hryhorec secured the first two with Mass Destruction before C K Spur won the next three.
“The stable has had a remarkable run in the Cups,” Hryhorec said. “It was only going into the fourth Cup that it was pointed out to me I’d won the first three which felt good at the time.
“Obviously everybody wants to win, but you don’t seriously think you’ll win them all.
“I couldn’t be happier for my owners.”
As for his pending journey to headquarters, Hryhorec will launch a three-pronged attacked on the SA Trotters’ Cup.
To be driven by Lisa Ryan, Aldebaran Alissa will begin from the 10-metre line, with Mass Destruction coming from a 20-metre handicap with Dani Hill in the sulky.
Hryhorec will partner C K Spur from his 50-metre back mark.
“It will be harder for the three of them this week given the bigger field,” Hryhorec said.
“It’s one thing to win from 50 metres like C K Spur did at Victor Harbor when you’ve only got five runners to get around but it is a lot tougher when there is a full field of 11 to circumnavigate.
“Even 20 metres won’t be an easy task for Mass Destruction, but as long as they get an even run at them, they will be hard to beat.”
