Carbine Chemicals presents “Faces at the races”

TYPICALLY a person’s initiation to training stems from following a family member into the lifestyle, living next door to a stable or having a friend who prepares horses.

For Jeff Procter it began with “the most expensive prize I’ve ever won”.

Enjoying one of his trips to the trots for a night out, Procter gave his daughter – Kim – money to buy food, however, the youngster purchased a raffle ticket to win a pony…as kids do.

As you can guess, Kim won!

Fast forward a few decades and Procter is a respected South Australian horseman, who has also become a ‘Jack of all trades’ within the industry.

“I’ve called trials and a couple of non Sky meetings, driven the mobile, worked as track attendant, been on the horse gate and worked the numbers room,” Procter said. “Also been a track maintainance guy on midweek meetings.

“I’ve been President of Pony Association, now a life member, I’m on the committee of the Square Trotters’ Association and a life member and recently became a member of the reformed Industry Advisory Council.

“I love the sport and my time in it. While I wouldn’t let Kim buy a raffle ticket instead of food, it has been a great result, as looking back, it changed our lives and been a terrific journey.

“Without that happening I would never have gotten involved in the industry.”

A female.

What was your first job?
Bank officer.

Jimmy Jacques calling a race at Globe Derby with laryngitis. His voice left him about 50 metres from finish.
