Change of scenery working wonders
A CHANGE of scenery continues to work wonders with rejuvenated mare Semi Sensation.
Racing in moderate form for owner-trainer David Lindon, Semi Sensation had been absent from the winners’ circle since June before being transferred to Michael Muscat at the end of December.
Scoring first-up for her new stable, the daughter of Mr Feelgood has won six of her eight subsequent starts, including an eye-catching victory in the Group Three Go Girlfriend at Club Menangle just moments ago.
“She wasn’t going as well as he’d liked and the competition was a bit tougher, so David sent her to me for a change of scenery,” Muscat said.
“She’s come on in leaps and bounds since getting here and gives the impression she can go further.
“On what she has been showing, I’m confident she can be competitive in the Saturday night mares’ races at Menangle.”
Driven by Doug Hewitt, Semi Sensation showed brilliant gate speed to lead from barrier 10 as the first quarter was covered in 27.4 seconds.
Striding clear of the pack at the top of home the straight, Semi Sensation cruised to a six-and-a-half metre win from Blazin Beauty, with Our Lady Lara a half-neck away third.
Covering the mile in 1:52.4, Semi Sensation took her record to 13 wins and 13 placings from 63 starts.
“It was exactly the run I expected from her,” Muscat said. “She went 1:54.8 in her heat at Bathurst and Doug said she could’ve gone 1:53 if needed.
“Her work since had even improved so I knew she’d run a big race.”
