Chris the milestone maker
REGARDLESS of the horse or the race, the next time popular couple Joe and Mary Rando are on the verge of a milestone Chris Geary will be the driver.
Thanks to Empire Bay’s victory in the Bulli Trotters’ Cup at Club Menangle just moments ago the Randos have registered their 100th win.
The first to officially begin training partners in New South Wales, the Randos joined forces in 2016.
As you would have guessed, Geary reined Empire Bay to glory in the Group Two to bring up the century.
What is lesser-known is Geary also drove Bee Arr Dee to score at Club Menangle to give the Randos their initial win almost five years ago to the day!
“Chris drove our first win as a partnership and now our 100th,” Joe said. “He’s obviously the man when we’re close to milestones.
“Bee Arr Dee won for us on May 10, 2016, which is just shy of being exactly five years.
“When we’re sitting on 199 Chris better be available to drive our next starter!”
Beginning well from his 10-metre handicap, Empire Bay was settled five-back along the pegs as the field travelled in ‘Indian file’ with Gimondi at the head of affairs.
Angled away from the pegs to receive the one-one trail along the back straight, Empire Bay was taken three-wide turning for home before sprinting to a six-and-a-half metre win from Gimondi.
Garland Greene was a head away third in 2:00 over 2300 metres.
“I gave him a good chance as he’s been knocking on the door but just having no luck,” Joe said.
“Two starts ago he got around the bend a little bit crabby, hung in a bit and galloped then last week the horse in front of him galloped come back quickly hitting him on the head and he galloped.
“His form didn’t look good but he’s been flying and just needed the kind of run he got tonight.”
