Modest plans despite return to top form
PLANS remain modest with well-travelled pacer Jak Magic despite his return to winning form.
Unable to make his way into the winners’ circle since scoring in Penrith last February, Jak Magic produced his best to capture the Country Series Final at Club Menangle tonight.
Pleased with Jak Magic’s performance, trainer Michael Muscat is yet to decide where he will head next with the five-year-old.
Muscat prepared Jak Magic for his previous victory before the son of Sportswriter spent time with Mark Farrugia and Nathan Turnbull.
“I train him for Mark, who is my uncle,” Muscat explained. “After I had a race fall Mark was jogging him up and started to train him for a while.
“Then after I had him back for a few starts Covid-19 restrictions were in full swing so we felt he might be better suited to racing in Bathurst which is why he was sent to Nathan.
“I got him back for this series and he has done a fantastic job.
“After his heat run when he finished second I gave him a serious chance in the Final if he got the right run.”
To connections’ delight Jak Magic did enjoy the “right run” with Mat Rue in the cart.
Eased to the tail of the field from barrier seven, Jak Magic sustained a strong three-wide run from the 800-metre mark to complete a two-metre win from Advance Warfare, with Hard To Love two metres away third.
Covering the mile in 1:56.6, Jak Magic took his record to five wins and five placings for earnings of $32,780.
“He goes along alright and should be able to win a few more,” Muscat said. “I’m not sure where I will head with him next as I haven’t looked past tonight, so I will have to look at the program and see what’s around.”
