Drawn to extend perfect Australian record
A FAVOURABLE draw has promising youngster Cantfindabettorman in a strong position to maintain his perfect Australian record on Saturday night.
Winner of his three starts since crossing the Tasman, including last weekend’s South East Derby at Albion Park, Cantfindabettorman will return to the same venue for the Queensland Derby.
To trainer Belinda McCarthy’s delight, the son of Sweet Lou has drawn to search for the lead in the Group One.
With McCarthy’s husband Luke to take the reins, Cantfindabettorman will begin from barrier two.
“He hasn’t set a foot wrong since he got here and we couldn’t be happier with him,” McCarthy said. “He only just got there at his last couple of starts, but he still found away to get the job done.
“He’s had three runs now and is right at his peak.
“The draw gives Luke plenty of options and he will be very hard to beat.”
Adding to McCarthy’s joy is the favourite, Leap To Fame, drawing the middle of the second row.
Sent for a spell following his New South Wales Derby success at Club Menangle in May, Leap To Fame has had two outings this campaign and was beaten a neck in the South East Derby.
TAB Fixed Odds have the Australian Pacing Gold purchase listed at the head of the market at $2.50, with Leap To Fame vying for favouritism at $2.70.
“Leap To Fame is clearly the one to beat,” McCarthy said. “That said, it is a strong, even field as you would expect in a Derby and there are several winning chances.”
