Ready to make a fist of it in Oaks

KEPT fresh since her Australian Pacing Gold success, classy three-year-old Steno has drawn “to make a fist of it” in one of several features at Albion Park on Saturday night.

Given a well-earned break following her Group One triumph at Club Menangle on April 30, Steno is engaged in the South East Oaks.

To trainer Cameron Ross’ delight, the exceptionally-bred filly, which has won her last four starts, has drawn to search for the lead from barrier three.

“We got up here yesterday and she has settled in perfectly,” Ross said. “She had a look around yesterday and then relaxed like a professional.

“She had a little jog this morning and was moving freely so everything is on track so far.

“She has a terrific draw, which I would love to have in the Queensland Oaks next week, but we will be doing everything we can to take advantage while we can.”

Adding to Ross’ joy is the tough draw bestowed upon hot favourite, Amore Vita.

Winner of her last three starts, including two at Albion Park, Amore Vita will begin from the middle of the second row.

“Amore Vita is the one to beat and has the runs on the board,” Ross said. “For us to be on the front and her on the back is a big help to my filly.

“My filly hasn’t had a start since the APG, but her track work has been good and she trialled strongly last week at Menangle and came through it well.

“She’s ready to make a fist of it.”
