TALENTED youngster Rockin With Elvis is expected to lead his older rivals on a merry dance at Club Menangle this afternoon.
A last start winner around the 1400-metre circuit, Rockin With Elvis has drawn to settle forward from barrier three.
As such the Brad Hewitt-trained gelding is a $2.15 favourite with TAB Fixed Odds.
Pleased with Rockin With Elvis’ draw, Hewitt is confident the Australian Pacing Gold purchase can complete consecutive wins.
“He’ll be pretty hard to beat from there,” Hewitt said. “It’s never easy taking on the older, more seasoned horses but he should handle it well.
“I was happy with his last run and expect him to be better again this time around.
“This is a bit of a drop in class for him but there is a lot of strong form in the race so it won’t be an easy task.”
Citing Bracken Storm as the one to beat, Hewitt rates Father Bob and Fear Cruisin as major threats.
Winner of his two starts this season Bracken Storm will begin from barrier five, with Fear Cruisin drawn two and Father Bob to come from gate six.
“Bracken Storm has looked good in his two runs back from a spell,” Hewitt said. “He’s clearly the one to beat even though he has drawn a little awkwardly.
“Father Bob and Fear Cruisin should also be right in the finish.”
Planning to keep Rockin With Elvis “ticking along”, Hewitt is working the son of Rock N Roll Heaven towards the three-year-old Australian Pacing Gold series.
Heats are scheduled to be conducted towards the end of April, with the $210,000 programmed to be run in Melton on May 9.
