END of year majors are the aim with comeback trotter Maori Law.

Having his third start from a spell – and fourth in 16 months – Maori Law was triumphant in last night’s John Slack Memorial in Ballarat.

Thrilled with the gelding’s performance, co-trainer Emmett Brosnan stated features such as the Australasian Trotting Championship and Bill Collins Sprint are part of Maori Law’s agenda.

Looking further ahead, Brosnan has earmarked the Inter Dominion as Maori Law’s main mission.

The time-honoured series is scheduled to begin with heats at Club Menangle on November 27.

“The aim is to have him ready for some of the nicer races at the back end of the year,” Brosnan said.

“There are quite a few good options for him at Melton before the season is over, plus the Inter Dominion in New South Wales.

“There’s a lot of water to go under the bridge before then, but as long as he is going well enough at the time, that’s the way we will head.”

Driven by premier reinsman Chris Alford, Maori Law led throughout from barrier three as Im Ready Jet and Mclovin filled the placings.

Bred and owned by Fred Crews, the son of Lawman rated 2:00.6 over 2200 metres.

“I was quite happy with his first two runs back as he had an extended stint on the sidelines,” Brosnan said. “In his first start back he got a flat tyre pretty early in the piece and in his second run he ran fifth, but it was a solid run.

“With a better draw this time I felt he would go well, but he probably actually went better than expected as I felt he would do that after another run.

“Chris said he did it well within himself, and given I expected him to improve from that run, he should be better again next time around.”
