Forgotten Grand Circuit prospect ready to return
WITH all the hype south of the border in recent weeks a pacer touted as a future superstar has been all but forgotten.
While Ride High and Lochinvar Art capture the public’s imagination Wolf Stride has been enjoying a well-earned break.
Before being sent for a spell Wolf Stride won six of his seven starts for trainer Anthony Butt.
The son of Rock N Roll Heaven was third upon his Butt debut before creating a huge impression which saw Butt rate the four-year-old as a Grand Circuit prospect.
“I will give him a break and then he’ll be thrown in the deep end when he comes back as he is up in grade,” Butt said following Wolf Stride’s May 23 victory at Club Menangle.
“Going on what he has shown the majors during the Victoria Summer Carnival and up here in Menangle are what we will be looking at.”
Following three trials this preparation, Wolf Stride will make his racing return when he heads to the world class venue on Saturday night.
To be driven by Butt, the entire will contest a heat of an up to 80 series, which culminates in a $30,600 next weekend.
Drawn to settle forward from barrier two, Wolf Stride is a $1.55 favourite with TAB Fixed Odds.
Maestro Bellini is considered the main danger at $2.70 from the pole.
“He hasn’t raced in a while but he has had three good trials and is ready to go,” Butt said.
“He was ready to race a couple of weeks ago but this race came up so I waited for it.
“That said, whatever he does this week he will certainly be better again for the Final.”
