Can debut winner match star sibling?

WHETHER she can reach the heights of some of her siblings remains to be seen, but Ladies In Red has certainly taken the ideal first step.

Making her debut in Shepparton last night, Ladies In Red outstayed her rivals to complete an impressive victory.

Trained by premier horsewoman Emma Stewart, the two-year-old is from Kabbalah Karen B, which boasts a perfect record from four starters.

The Canadian-bred broodmare’s progeny include multiple Group One winner Our Little General, Group Three winner Kasbah Kid and classy three-year-old Beautiful Woman which has three wins from five starts.

Ladies In Red is by Mach Three, making her a sister to Our Little General and a half-sister to the other two which are by Art Major.

Stewart trained Our Little General, while Beautiful Woman is also part of her team.

“Ladies In Red is a nice little filly,” Stewart said. “She goes along quite well.

“Whether she can be an Our Little General I don’t know, but she has started the right way.”

Driven by Jodi Quinlan, Ladies In Red was sent forward from barrier seven to settle outside Upright which led from gate five.

Forging her way to the front halfway along the home straight, Ladies In Red scored by five-and-a-half metres from the pacemaker, with Night School 13 metres away third in 1:55.8 over 1690 metres.

“It was a nice strong run from her,” Stewart said. “She still has plenty of improvement in her and will benefit from that run.

“I haven’t picked her next start yet, but she will head towards the better races later in the year.”
