Gentle giant living up to his name
HAVING lived up to his name during his two race appearances, Damysus will once again set out to prove he is the swiftest when he competes at Globe Derby tomorrow night.
Named as a result of his size, Damysus has also shown he possesses the speed to go with his title by winning his outings in impressive fashion.
The four-year-old scored by eight-and-a-half metres upon debut before winning by four metres during his next outing.
Part of Greek mythology, Damysus is a giant with lightning speed.
According to trainer Michael Sugars, Damysus the pacer has been well-named.
“He’s a big horse,” Sugars said. “He’s over 17 hands.
“The first time I saw him was when Ray Holberton was working him as a two-year-old and he just zoomed right past all of us.
“The others were no slouches and have all won a few races since.
“Unfortunately he broke down before he raced and looked to be done, but some of the owners wanted to persevere with him, which is how I got him.
“So far he is holding up well and has been impressive in his two starts.”
To be driven by Ryan Hryhorec, Damysus has drawn to lead throughout his pending 1800-metre assignment after drawing the pole.
Although he is confident the gelding can maintain his undefeated status, Sugars stated Damysus will need to improve against such an in-form field.
“Everything he has done so far he has done easily,” Sugars said. “Hopefully that will be the case again on Saturday night.
“It’s a step up for him, but I can’t see any reason why he won’t handle it.
“There is plenty of form in the race, so he has his work set out for him.”
