Will Wood be good?

A LOT more hangs in the balance than just the winner’s cheque for Wheres Wood Wood at Globe Derby tomorrow night.

An enigmatic pacer, Wheres Wood Wood is engaged in the Allwood Sales Series Final for four-year-old mares.

A solid performance will see Wheres Wood Wood continuing to race, however, another poor exhibition could result in retirement according to trainer Shaun Kittel.

“She is a very up and down mare,” Kittel said. “We know she can go well, but she can also go badly.

“If she does a good job she may even stay in South Australia for a couple of runs, but it will be the breeding barn if she goes no good.”

With Kittel unable to head interstate with Wheres Wood Wood she was sent across the border last night to be stabled with Ray Holberton.

Wayne Hill will take the drive behind the daughter of Mach Three which has drawn barrier four in the $36,000 feature.

“I put her on a transport last night and she got to Ray’s this morning,” Kittel said. “I haven’t heard from him today, so I’m sure she’s fine.

“She’s got good gate speed so she will come out with them a bit and see where she lands.

“If she races up to her best she will be right in it.”
