Godfather to help snatch the loot

RIVALS of one youngster better check their shoes for cement at Club Menangle on Saturday night.

With the lion’s share of $50,000 up for grabs, the three-year-old’s connections are planning a big hit in the New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge True Blue.

In fact, the ‘family’ has even called upon the services of Luke ‘The Godfather’ McCarthy to enhance the prospect of getting their hands on the loot!

Fresh from winning three of the four Group Ones around the world class venue last weekend, McCarthy will take the reins behind Crime Dont Pay in the upcoming feature.

“Melissa (Hawke) has stepped aside so the man of the moment can drive him,” trainer Michael Hawke said. “Melissa wants to give the horse every chance and felt Luke was the best way of doing that.”

Racing in his customary consistent fashion with two wins and a third from his last five starts, Crime Dont Pay is ready ‘to go to the mattresses’ according to Hawke.

The son of Sportswriter has drawn wide in seven, but slots into five with the removal of the emergencies.

TAB Fixed Odds have the gelding at $34, with Katchar Shoobee the $1.60 favourite from gate two.

Prepared by Brian Portelli, Katchar Shoobee was beaten a short half-head in 1:54.2 against older rivals earlier this week.

“He had no luck at his last start when he never got a clear run until it was over and he flew home,” Hawke said.

“His work has been terrific and he feels great…he couldn’t be better going into this.

“Katchar Shoobee is the one to beat from the draw, but we’ll be doing our best.”
