Main danger close to home
EARLY favourite Plutonium won’t have to look far to find his main danger at Globe Derby on Saturday night.
Boasting two wins and a tough second from three starts since arriving from New Zealand, Plutonium is set to contest the third event on the card.
To be driven by trainer David Drury, the gelding is at $2.20 after drawing barrier four.
“I couldn’t be happier with what he has done since joining the stable,” Drury said. “He is certainly meeting all expectation and then some.
“He had nothing go his way last start. He copped a bit of interference at the start, was then forced four-wide before finding the breeze and was only beaten a short half-head.
“He showed plenty of guts up the straight.”
Although there are plenty of rivals with strong form in the 1800-metre event, Plutonium’s stablemate Jaccka Ted is the one to beat according to Drury.
Drawn the inside of the back row, Jaccka Ted has been impressive winning his two outings from a spell, including a demolition job at the troubled venue a fortnight ago.
“Jaccka Ted is in top condition,” Drury said. “His two runs this time in have been super and he’s improved in his work since his run a couple of weeks ago.
“There is a lot of form in the race, but I’d rate Jaccka as the main danger to Plutonium.”
